This is a beautiful large oval faceted stone.  The stone tests as amethyst and has eye catching lilac-violet tones.  The brooch is set in a claw setting and is marked with the British is marked 9 ct gold.  Circa 1940.  The brooch is  2.50 cm x 2 cm, and the brooch total weight is 6.1 grams.
